Trailer Flooring
Wood floors are a common site in the beds of horse trailers.
Wood is a poor conductor of heat. This is good, because, in many parts of our country when road heat is combined with hot air temperatures, we can get concerned about our horses' comfort and safety in a trailer. Road heat radiates upward. This is true whether the trailer is stopped or moving. If the trailer is well ventilated, heated air is moved out when the trailer is traveling down the highway.But, with metal floors, the horses' feet are in contact with a consistently hot surface. This is true, even with mats and shavings. A wooden floor, with it's inefficient transfer of heat, allows more comfortable temperatures in the trailer, with cooler feet for your horse.
